PROGRAM FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

The mission of the Tacoma Public School's Program for the Visually
Impaired is to prepare students with visual impairments for their
roles as independently functioning productive members of society.
The vision staff uses Functional Vision Evaluations (FVE) and
medical reports before collaborating with staff, parents and
community partners to implement a program. Each student's
individual needs will be considered to determine which services are
most appropriate. Services to include/but not limited to: training
in braille, low vision devices, assistance technology and
orientation and mobility (O& M). Itinerant services, birth
through age 21, are available to meet students' needs as they
relate to their vision impairment. These services are provided
within school, community and home settings. Our professional staff
is dedicated to each and every student we serve to provide them the
best quality educational services.
