PROGRAM FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

   The mission of the Tacoma Public School's Program for the Visually Impaired is to prepare students with visual impairments for their roles as independently functioning productive members of society. The vision staff uses Functional Vision Evaluations (FVE) and medical reports before collaborating with staff, parents and community partners to implement a program. Each student's individual needs will be considered to determine which services are most appropriate. Services to include/but not limited to: training in braille, low vision devices, assistance technology and orientation and mobility (O& M). Itinerant services, birth through age 21, are available to meet students' needs as they relate to their vision impairment. These services are provided within school, community and home settings. Our professional staff is dedicated to each and every student we serve to provide them the best quality educational services.
