Somewhere in the liminal space between what you know about poetry, what I know about poetry, and what these poets know about poetry is the content of this course. Think of it as driving down a dark highway with one headlight barely working and one not working at all. We will pull off at a rest stop eventually for some of that thin coffee in a Styrofoam cup, made by a retired person who just wants to give back something to the weary travelers of this continent, but for most of the journey, we’ll be in the car, looking for something decent to listen to on the radio and calibrating the heater to just the right spot between the chill that keeps us awake and the heat that keeps our toes from freezing. We are driven towards the final parking place, the end, the warm embrace we encounter after someone opens the door and says, I’m so glad you’re here; how was the trip?
