The Arrival

Homework for the 3-day weekend January 26 - 28.   Due Tuesday, January 29

Record a 10 - 30 minute interview of a family member

Begin with these questions:

What is your familly cultural background?
How did your family come to Tacoma or Washington?
How did your family come to the U.S.?
What were challenges associated with coming to the U.S.?

If you really can't uncover an immigration story, your family has Native American roots, or was brought to the United States against their will, try these questions:

How did our family settle in Washington?
What are some family traditions we have?
What stories have been passed down through the generations?

Remember to visit the StoryCorps "Great Questions List" for inspirations as you prepare for your AWSOME interview!
The link to StoryCorps can be found on the Links page.

Questions for Parents & Guardians

Supplies for all my Spanish Classes  - To accompany you to each class.

1 1/2" 3-ring binder (can be used for other classes because I won't ask you to ever leave it - but then you might want a bigger one)

Three dividers for the 3-ring binder   (Spanish Vocabulary, Notes and Work, Songs and Culture)

2 dark-colored dry erase markers for individual white-board practice

2 red pens for self-correcting work

pencil

pen (blue or black ink)

loose-leafed lined paper - college-ruled

(I know some of yor REALLY like composition books, so that may substitute for the notes section of your 3-ring binder, but you still HAVE TO HAVE THE 3-ring BINDER for all the handouts I will be giving you.)

Supplies you'll need at home.....
3x5 cards (at least 100... by the end of the year you'll need at least 300 cut in half... so 600 -- unless  you decide you like online flashcards.)

****I welcome donations of Kleenex.

2.  Textbook Checkout

Textbook checkout is an extra duty beside teaching for me.  Therefore, it has to take place OUTSIDE of my teaching hours.  This is why I am not available at all times on all days.

I am basically the textbook librarian and will also assess fines if textbooks are returned damaged beyond reasonable wear and tear.

Our "library" is in the book room in the Post Office.

Step 1:  Fill out the textbook request slip with your full name, mentor name and check off all the books you want to receive.

Step 2:  You will write
-first and last name, 2012-13, and the teacher's name of that class
inside the front flap of the textbook.  That way if you leave it somewhere, the book has a better chance of finding it's way back to you.  Then you won't be worrying all year that you will owe SOTA around $85.

Step 3:  You will  review the condition of each textbook.

If there is existing damage to the book, you will bring it to the attention of the person scanning out the book to you.  THIS IS VITAL TO AVOIDING DAMAGE FINES IN JUNE!

Step 4:  Once the books have been scanned, you are free to return to MPG.  Keep the neon yellow Textbook Request form.  It is your pass back to class.
