My role at SAMI:

My overall goal is to support students to achieve social and emotional wellbeing, and academic success. I focus on the whole person and recognize the importance of the non-academic factors involved in learning. I value identifying and promoting the strengths that exist within students, families, and communities.

My support of students consists primarily of: meeting one-on-one with students; facilitating groups; collaborating with teachers and other school personnel; serving as a liaison between students, families, and communities; and connecting students and families with outside resources.

About me:

I began working at SAMI in October 2014, and I am thrilled to be here. I am passionate about helping to ensure each student has the support necessary to achieve at their highest level and to fully benefit from their high school experience.

My previous employment includes: providing and directing case management services for HIV+ individuals as an employee of the Pierce County AIDS Foundation, offering professional development and job search education to students at a vocational school, supporting adults with developmental disabilities who lived in group home environments, and working as a ParaEducator with the Kent School District.

I received a Bachelor's degree from Whitman College (Sociology/Politics), and a Master's in Social Work degree from the University of Washington, Tacoma.

When I’m not at SAMI, I spend my time with my wonderful husband and my two fantastic kids. My favorite hobbies are hiking, kayaking, biking, and skiing.
