October 23 - Practice List

Hello 5th graders! We are in our 2nd week of working from the book. We are starting on page 7.

Here's what to be practicing at home:
#5, 6, 7 (from page 6.) Graduate by playing #7 for me before the 8:15 bell.
#8, 9, 10, 11, 12 (from page 7.) We are working on playing several notes in a single breath, and "tonguing" at the start of each note.

If you can play the exercises on page 6, it's time to show me what you can do! We "level up" through a process called "page graduations." So how do you graduate from page 6? You must play line #7 with correct fingerings and with a stable, steady tone. You must also memorize the names for all three notes introduced on the page and be able to identify whole notes and whole rests. I'll quiz you. All the info you need can be found on page 6. That's it!

Graduations are held daily from 8:07 until the morning announcements are over (at about 8:17.) If you don't graduate on the first try, don't give up! That's an opportunity for me to help you individually before going home and practicing some more. You may retake as often as you need.

We are excited to be visiting elementary schools Tuesday, September 19, and Wednesday, Sept. 20, when students will be able to try out instruments they might be interested in learning.

Save the date: "Music Night" is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. This is a time to meet the teachers, register for the class, rent instruments, purchase supplies, and check out the school. Stay tuned- more information coming soon!
