Welcome to Lister!  First grade is an exciting time for learning.  Our goal is to establish a strong foundation as your child begins his or her CLIMB to COLLEGE!
We spend much of our time working hard learning to read and write.  Your child receives 90 minutes of reading instruction and Independent Reading time during the Reading Block.   Additionally, we have listening and reading comprehension lessons a couple days a week.  At writing time, your child is learning to write personal narratives, informational writing, and opinion writing, using phonetic spelling, (spelling the best they can by writing the sounds they hear.)  We also learn friendly letters, and Non-fiction "All About" writing.  We write every day.

Math is also an important part of our daily curriculum.  We will  study 3 Science Units, New Plants in the fall, Air and Weather in winter, and Solids and Liquids in the spring.    In Social Studies, we learn how families are  different and similar, and we learn about continents and oceans, and simple map reading.

It's so important for your child to practice reading at home nightly and please look over their math homework that is completed in class daily.  If you need to contact me, please call at 571-2932 before 8:45 and after 3:30.  I can call you from home in the evening if you have work or school during the day.
