Sam Tooley - Teacher

Welcome to the Gray Middle School orchestra and band room! I am excited about many music making opportunities I'll have with you in the coming months.

We offer classes for orchestra (string instruments) and  band (wind instruments):
1) Beginning Band, Beginning Strings and 5th Grade Band focus on fundamentals of technique and music reading
2) Concert Orchestra and Pilots Band continue to develop skills on the instruments while playing music literature.

Check out this website to find out about instruments and why you should be in band or orchestra!

Students in all classes will be involved in a comprehensive music experience which will include the following categories:
* Performance skills
* Music Theory
* Music History
* Music Creativity (composition & improvisation)

This is my twenty-third year teaching instrumental music and my eighteenth year in the Tacoma school district. I have a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in music education from the Eastman School of Music. My primary instruments are the bassoon, baritone horn and tuba. I've also been playing violin and viola for the past few years.

I am glad to have you visit this bulletin board and will place interesting information on the board as the year progresses. Check back often!

Please call me at 571-5284 or click "Teacher Contact" to the left if you have any questions or concerns.
