New ANNOUNCEMENTS! Updated 9-27-2017

choose Meal App Now to apply for free and reduced lunches.

If students run out of lunch money on their account, they will not be turned away, they receive a peanut butter sandwich and milk rather than a hot lunch at no charge whatsoever.

 Dear Parents,

We made it through the first week of kindergarten!  We have been working hard on listening and following directions and learning all of the expectations in the school.  We also practiced how to be safe during a fire drill!

BUS RIDERS: If your child is a bus rider, or attend a daycare, but you will be picking them up instead on a certain day, please call the school or send a note to let us know.  If we do not have a note, or a phone call, all bus riders will be put on the bus. Thank you!

SNACK: For Mrs. Maves’ class, please send a snack for the month of September. Mrs. Kamla’s and Mrs. O’Connor’s snack calendar for September are attached.  Please send snack for 20 students.  In Mrs. Kamla’s class, please do not send anything with grapes, grape juice or raisins.  Thank you.

NAMES:  Please mark your child’s coat, backpack and lunchbox with his/her name.  Many of these items look the same, and it helps us to identify the owner when lost.  Thank you!

SUPPLIES:  If you have not sent your child’s supplies, please do so next week.  Thank you to all of you who have sent in school supplies!

SHOES:  Many students are coming to school with shoes untied.  Please make sure your child’s shoes are DOUBLE KNOTTED before coming to school.  Having to stop instruction and tie multiple shoes really interferes with teaching and learning.  Thank you!

September 22- All School BBQ at lunch- 11:00

September 26- Back to School Night 5:30-7:00

October 2- Picture Day, free dress day

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give us a call or email!

 Thank you!

WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN!                   kinders squirrel image 3.jpg

Dear Families,

Welcome to kindergarten at Franklin Elementary School!  I am very excited to be working with you and your child this year!  Starting kindergarten is an exciting and sometimes scary event for children.  I will do all that I can to help get your child off to a great start.  It is the beginning of a new adventure in the world of learning!

During kindergarten this year, your child will learn how to read, write sentences, count, add and so much more.  I hope to make your child’s first school experiences fun and exciting, and to instill a love of learning that lasts throughout their school career.

Here is some important information to help get the year started smoothly.

NEWSLETTERS: Every Friday, I will send a weekly note home about the upcoming events, things we have learned during the week, and helpful reminders.

PANTHER PRIDE TRAITS AND AWARDS: Here at Franklin, we practice our “Panther Pride Traits” on a daily basis.  We are respectful, responsible, caring and safe at all times at school. When students are “caught” demonstrating these traits are given “Panther Awards”.  Names are drawn each week for prizes both in the classroom and in the school for students who have earned Panther awards.  When you see your child bring one home, ask him/her what she did to earn one!

CLASS RULES: Our class rules are:

  1.  Be Kind
  2.  Be Safe
  3. Always do your best!

CONSEQUENCES: Kindergarten is a time to learn about being responsible for ourselves and making choices about our behavior. Sometimes, we don’t make the right choice, and there will be a consequence for that choice.  For example, if a child chooses not do to their math work during math time, the consequence would be that math is finished during center time, while their friends are playing. Other consequences might include a verbal reminder, having a time out during recess or center time, a phone call home, or a visit to the office to talk to the principal.

SNACK: Beginning September 19, we will have snack every afternoon.  Each child will have a designated snack day that they are to bring a snack to share with the class. I will send home a “snack calendar”.  On your child’s snack day, they will be the “Special Helper”.  They will be the class leader for the day.  Snacks that are great for school are fruit snacks, crackers, juice boxes, granola bars, etc.  Please make sure that you send snack for 24 students, and that they do not include nuts.  Students look forward to their snack day,and love sharing with their classmates.  Thank you in advance for your support!

UNIFORMS: Please make sure your child is in uniform every day.  Students not in uniform will be sent to the office to change.  Uniform information is found in the Student/Family handbook.  Fridays will be free dress days this year!

VOLUNTEERS: We welcome parent/family volunteers in our class to help with art projects, reading, field trips, etc.  I let families know in the newsletter when we need volunteers.  All volunteers must fill out volunteer paperwork, and check in at the office.
